The King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) is an independent and pluralistic foundation which is named after Belgium's late head of state and was established in 1976. Its objective is to make a lasting contribution to justice, democracy and respect for diversity.

Each year, the Foundation provides financial support to over 2,000 organizations and individuals committed to building a better society. It is mainly active in the fields of poverty, democracy, heritage, philanthropy, health, leadership, local engagement, migration and development.

KBF combines various working methods to achieve its objectives. It supports third-party projects, launches its own activities, provides a forum for debate and reflection, and fosters philanthropy. The results of its projects are disseminated through a range of communication channels. KBF works with public services, associations, NGOs, research centers, businesses and other foundations.

KBF operates with an annual budget of close to 50 million euros. Located in Brussels, the capital of the European Union and the site of NATO headquarters, it is active at the Belgian, European and international levels. In the Balkans, the Foundation supports efforts to promote EU integration, tackle human trafficking and defend minority rights. Key initiatives in the global South include the King Baudouin International Development Prize and projects to fight HIV/AIDS and promote good governance in Central Africa.

Drawing on its extensive knowledge and expertise, KBF also advises individuals and corporations wishing to become actively involved in the communities where they live or operate. Through the Transnational Giving Europe network and the Giving in Europe website, KBF strives to improve the environment of cross-border philanthropy in Europe.

KBF is a founding member of the European Foundation Center and the Network of European Foundations. It is a strategic partner of the European Policy Center, one of the leading think tanks in Europe.
